| comment | This is a stunning find. The 875 solid silver trumpet dates around 1807. The niello finish is typical of work by major silversmiths at that time. The item is a worthy addition to my collection. The marks were analysed by Giorgio Busetto. Ustinove worked 1806-1852 Assayer 1781-1809 means trump must be 1806-9, but it is an early naive piece. The Science Museum has a later one (1848) which is very similar. |
