Conversation tubes varied in length from an inch or two up to 50inches long.

Early examples were made with ivory earpieces and horns or wood to save money.

Later these became metal and sometimes were silver plated.

When they became popular the common material was vulcanite.

The spiral metal tube was silk or cotton covered.
